A Jesus Followers body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:9 & 1Corinthians 6:19.

Therefore everything, within reason (1 Corinthians 6:12; 10:23), that we can do to enhance our body's wellness, including bodybuilding /weight lifting, is entirely Biblical.

Weightlifting and bodybuilding can't be lumped together, for example, many athletes lift weights as a part of their training for whatever sport that they play and that doesn't make them a body builder. You can weight lift for many reason and a lot of them are healthy. There are many benefits to resistance training especially seeing that we are the most sedentary that we have ever been in our history.

Now bodybuilding is exactly what it sounds like, it's all about building your body, and bodybuilders do many unhealthy things to get competition ready. We see body builders and think healthy, when that isn't really the case. Bodybuilding as a sport is all about the glorification of self. I can't see how one can glorify God and be a competitive bodybuilder. They don't mix, as someone who lifts weights and has exposure to a fair amount of people who are bodybuilders I am speaking from experience. You can lift weights, and still glorify God by treating your body like the temple of the Holy Ghost by offering your body in the best possible condition for the service to God.

As for competitive bodybuilding I couldn't recommend it to anyone in good conscience seeing the amount of health endangering things that people do just to glorify their bodies.
