That there be peace on earth and that men be redeemed back to God. That we have everlasting life.

What was the purpose of Jesus' birth?

Scripture presents the purpose of Jesus' birth as God entering human history to accomplish salvation, fulfil long‑standing promises, and reveal His nature directly to humanity. When the angel spoke to Joseph, he explained that the Holy Spirit conceived Mary's child and that He must be named Jesus because He would save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:20–21). His name, meaning "Jehovah Is Salvation," expresses the mission tied to His arrival.

Jesus stated that He came to "bear witness to the truth" (John 18:37), revealing God's character, intentions, and the reality of His kingdom. He also declared that He came to give His life as "a ransom in exchange for many" (Mark 10:45), providing the means for humanity to be freed from sin and restored to life. His birth made it possible to offer His human life, which stands at the centre of redemption.

His arrival fulfilled prophecies that had shaped Israel's hope for centuries. Isaiah foretold a virgin bearing a son called Immanuel, "God with us," and Matthew identifies Jesus as the fulfilment of that promise. Prophecies concerning the Messiah's lineage, birthplace, and mission—found in Genesis, Isaiah, and Micah—come together in Him, linking ancient expectation with its realisation.

Jesus' birth also revealed God in human form. As the Word made flesh, He embodied divine compassion, authority, and holiness in a way people could witness directly. Through His life and teaching, humanity encountered God personally, not through symbols or intermediaries.

The circumstances surrounding His birth—virgin conception, divine naming, prophetic fulfilment—established His identity from the beginning as the promised Messiah and Son of God. Before He performed any miracle or taught any lesson, His role was already declared.

Although rooted in Israel's story, His birth signalled a mission extending to all nations. The promise to Abraham that "all nations will be blessed" finds its fulfilment in Jesus, whose saving work reaches beyond ethnic and cultural boundaries.

In sum, Jesus was born to bring salvation, fulfil prophecy, reveal God's nature, and begin restoring humanity to life.

His birth marks the moment when divine purpose entered the world in human flesh, setting in motion the redemption that would shape history.
