What was Jesus' purpose?

Jesus' purpose was to bring God's salvation, reveal God's character, and establish God's kingdom through His life, death, and resurrection.

To Save Humanity from Sin

Jesus came to deal decisively with humanity's core problem: sin.

"The Son of Man came… to give His life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45) 

"God so loved the world that He gave His only Son… that whoever believes in Him should not perish." (John 3:16) 

His death provides forgiveness, and His resurrection guarantees new life.

To Reveal God Fully and Personally

Jesus shows humanity exactly what God is like.

"Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9) 

"The Word became flesh… full of grace and truth." (John 1:14) 

His words, actions, and character make God's nature visible and understandable.

To Fulfil All Messianic Prophecy

Jesus completes the promises and expectations of the Old Testament.

"I have not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfil them."(Matthew 5:17) 

Isaiah's suffering servant prophecies (Isaiah 53) are fulfilled in His atoning work. 

This confirms God's long‑planned redemption.

To Announce and Establish God's Kingdom

Jesus' teaching and miracles reveal the arrival of God's reign.

"The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe." (Mark 1:15) 

His parables and ethical teaching (e.g., Sermon on the Mount) define kingdom life. 

He inaugurates a new way of living under God's rule.

To Defeat Evil and Destroy the Devil's Works

Jesus' mission includes breaking the power of sin, death, and Satan.

"The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the Devil." (1 John 3:8) 

His resurrection is the decisive victory.

To Form and Commission His People

Jesus establishes the community that will continue His mission.

"Go and make disciples of all nations…" (Matthew 28:19–20) 

The Church becomes the ongoing witness of His kingdom.

Jesus' purpose was to save humanity, reveal God, fulfil prophecy, establish God's kingdom, and defeat evil.

Jesus' purpose was to reveal God's saving rule by offering His life for humanity, unveiling the true nature of the Father, and initiating a kingdom that reshapes how His followers live, hope, and serve in the world.
