They absolutely don't have any power unless we let them have power over us. When I was in Ghana, worked with some Christians who sometimes had to perform excorcism (but they call it deliverance) and even I once did it before. From my experience, I can tell you that they only have power over worldly or carnal Christians and others like this. When you stick with God, no demon has power over you, but we as His disciples have power to command them like Jesus once did. So please never be afraid of their existence, because you are more than a conquerer. Thank you.
Demons are powerful enemies in the heavenlies; Satan is “the prince and power of the air”, and uses lies to make himself to look and act like an angel to fool even God’s elect people (or Christians), if possible. The only way a Christian can defeat (even temporarily) the attacks of the devil is by quoting God’s Word, which is an important part of the armor that he must put on as protection (God’s Word is the sword of the spirit). God says, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7). When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness he used scripture to defeat him (an example: Satan told Jesus, who had fasted for 40 days and nights and was very hungry, to turn the stones into bread; Jesus replied, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4). The devil couldn’t rebuff the Word, so therefore changed his line of questioning. If Jesus had to use the Word of God, it proves all the more that Christians need to do the same when engaged in battle with the devil or his minions.
