I begin with the premise that God loves all people. In love, God does what is necessary to bring about faith, hope, and love in people. In essence, he stoops low, just as Jesus did in walking with us at all, just as you do with a child who needs to learn. You don't give a child a physics book and tell them to go learn about heat transfer. You teach them the word "hot." God stoops low with these images, because it is where we were at that time and so he met us there. Think about where they came from, slaves for generations in Egypt. They needed something to make them into a people for Him. But, if you think about it, it was also a gift for us today to help us to see with larger perspective the superior gift of Emanuel, God with us. Hebrews 8. I guess the short answer is because he is patient with us. Thanks, God.
