Paul is saying that there are many professing Christians whose worldly, hedonistic life style can corrupt believers. These he said are enemies of the cross and he described them in four ways:- (1) Those whose destiny is distruction or eternal punishment, (2) "Their God is their belly"-- In submitting to their earthly nature, they worship their sensual desires by gluttony, sexual immorality, licentiousness, and all manner of lusts., (3) Their reputation consists in their shame---they are well known because they are a public disgrace and loss of good name, (4) Their mind is constantly on earhtly things rather than heavenly.
Paul is referring to those who are seeking Christ, not for righteous living, but simply for what they will eat--people who think that godliness is a means of enriching themselves: (1 Timothy 6: 5). They are proud of what they should be ashamed of. Christ warned his disciples not to labour over anything that does not have eternal value. (John 6: 27)
