What does God say about growing up in an abusive home? How does one get past this trauma?

Hey, I wouldn't mind hearing some verses on that too. I know God is showing me that forgiveness is key. I'm in a prison of my own, being angry bc of the past. Sometimes I treat my husband badly bc I'm hurt on the inside. Childhood trauma is overcome-able and forgiveness is possible. God wouldn't tell us to do something that wasn't good for us. The enemy knows that he could keep us down be reminding us of our pain. It took a long time but I'm getting through it. Jesus gives me the strength to change my thought pattern. God bless.

I think that Psalm 27:10 is most precious. "When my father and mother abandon me, then the LORD will gather me up." This is really hard to deal with when the perpetrators of these horrible kinds of sins are themselves unrepentant believers. This blog is from a Christian perspective and could be of some use:

Great answer. There are so many people in the world today with a history of abuse. I am one of them too. Took me many years to come to a place of forgiving the ones that abused me. And believe me it was hard to do. I know to get to heaven I have forgive as our Father forgives us. Matthew 6:14-15 explains it very well and is one of my favorites verses when I struggle with the issue. Thank God we have the bible to study and learn God's words.

I think sometimes we feel we have forgiven/forgiving when our emotions tell us that we feel no more pain or it is subsiding. Only when we emotionally feel well then we have forgiven. I think we should choose to forgive (and it's taken me years to think this as I am an emotional person) as Jesus said "As your Heavenly Father forgives you so must you forgive others" I'm sure when Jesus was on the cross and said "Father forgive them for they don't know what they are doing" his emotions were not well.

I think we need to choose to forgive as Christ taught us to but I feel there is nothing wrong with the following "but the pain is raw, the hatred is real and I hurt" "Please help me with these emotions and protect me with your love, wisdom when satan comes to rob me of the healing you want to give me"

Lauren if you still want some bible verses or further help please let me know.

God bless you all
