Why does the Bible say to not be yoked with unbelievers but then say that we should stay with an unbelieving husband/wife if s/he will allow it?

1 Corinthians 7:12-13

This seems like a contradiction.

2 Corinthians 6:14

NIV - 14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Marriage is not the context of the scripture, "Don't be yoked together with unbelievers." Read the whole chapter and you won't read anything that refers to wedlock. It's one of the most misapplied texts in all of scripture. It should be the litmus test to determine if you repeat what is traditionally taught or whether you study the bible from scratch. The writer wasn't writing to that church trying to tell men who to marry. Of course women didn't need premarital counseling, they just did what they were told. It had nothing to do with marriage.
