Why did James warn that "not many should become teachers" when Paul tells us to "covet the better gifts"?
1 Corinthians 12:29-31 Teaching is third among the list of gifts, and so should be one of the 'greater gifts'.
James 3:1
ESV -
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

The order in which the teaching gift is listed has no bearing on its value. Teachers are more accountable to God, so one has to be very careful about his or her calling. James 3:1
