Who are the 144,000 sealed from Israel in the book of Revelation?

Revelation 7:1 - 17

NKJV - 1 After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea.

There are two references to the 144,000. Both must be read to gain proper understanding. These passages teach us that they will be Israelites from twelve tribes. If you study this numbering you will find that the tribe of Dan has been left out, and that Joseph's offspring have the double portion. Some feel that the omission of Dan is due to the false worship that was set up as recorded in the book of Judges.

The 144,000 will be believers in Jesus Christ. The reference to their being virgins has been debated. I have heard from sides claiming that they are virgins, and I have heard some claim that they could be married but were virgins at their time of marriage having been undefiled. Another view, less often heard is that they were not drawn away from the Lord into false worship.

Personally, I find many people caught up in the "end times" prophecies. The word revelation is from the Greek "apokalypto" meaning to uncover or reveal. These writings were meant to be understood and can be when studied in their proper context along with the Old Testament Scriptures in their proper context.

I pray that this has helped you to answer your question and that you find the answer that you seek.
