It is a common belief that our Lord Jesus Christ celebrated Passover with His disciples on Maundy Thursday (on the Thursday before Easter) I would in this connection request a reference to Jn 18:28 which states as follows: "Early in the Morning Jesus was taken from the Caiaphas' house to the governor's palace. The Jewish authorities did not go inside the palace for they wanted to keep them ritually clean in order to be able to eat Passover meals" It is thus clear that the Passover was not celebrated by the Jews until our Lord was condemned to death. The time of the ritual slaying of the Passover lambs was to happen at the very moment when our Lord was being crucified. For Jesus is the real Passover Lamb. And the Passover celebrations of the Jews which commenced in the days of Moses while the Jews were slaves under Egypt was to be continued only till the real Passover Lamb was slain..

Maundy Thursday derives from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "mandate" or "commandment". It refers to the new commandment Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper: "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34), which he demonstrated by washing their feet. See this outline of the big picture by Harold Wilmington: I. THE WARNING BY JESUS (John 13:18-38): Jesus now makes three troubling predictions. A. In regard to Judas's defection (John 13:18-30) 1. The Scripture (John 13:18-25): Jesus quotes from Psalm 41:9, which predicts his betrayal. 2. The sign (John 13:26-30): Jesus says the one sharing the bread with him is the traitor. B. In regard to Jesus' departure (John 13:31-35) 1. He must leave (John 13:31-33). 2. They must love (John 13:34-35): He commands them to love one another as he has loved them. C. In regard to Peter's denials (John 13:36-38): Jesus says that before the rooster crows, Peter will deny him three times!
