The Sabbath rest started at creation. It is not a Mosaic law but a commandement of God to mankind. We (Christians) are the New Israel, therefor the TEN commandements are ALL valid today till the end of time. They are in the Arc of the Covenant. The Mozaic laws are at the side , outside the Arc. It's simple, God asks if us to take a day of rest that He designated...it is clear in the Decalog. We are saved by grace but respect God by listening to His commandements and spending time (or worship and praise, prayer) on His chosen day. We can of course do this everyday but He specifically chose one. The Sunday worship came from Constantine and elaborated by the Catholic Church to seoatate from the Jews. Many Protestants followed suit.

Bottom line...we are to respect the commandements of God and hold the testimony of Jesus Christ ! This is Biblical.

The very interesting part about reviewing certain aspects are that the context is not formally given credit to. Paul speaks of giving an offering on the first day of the week due to the persecuted assembly in Jerusalem, not for a church service. Paul also mentions not to be in bondage to certain years, days and going back. Here Paul is talking to gentiles as referenced in the scriptures right before that regarding the worship of their false gods and them falling back into paganism. Also in regards to Paul's other teachings regarding that all scripture was profitable for doctrine, well lets just remember that the New Testament was not even written then and it refers to the Torah as Gods instructions as the scripture. One last point, if Christ abolished the Sabbath then I guess everything else was abolished to including the instructions to not commit adultery after all they are all part of the 10 commandments. Paul himself said the Jew has preference over the Gentile, because God entrusted them not us to his word. Romans also speaks that the law / instruction is not void. It is true that the Feast days are a shadow picture of the coming Messiah Yeshua, but no where did God prescribe to stop the Sabbath or the feast day. Jesus only fulfilled part of the law / instructions while here of the shadow types the rest are still to come.

It is interesting to see this topic discussed.
Really, I am not sure what is right, however I see that Satan is trying to deceive us. So if what the battle is between God and Satan is for worship why wouldn't satan try to fool us on what day God wants us to worship?

POINT: The day of OUR week is NOT listed in the Bible! It ways the Seventh Day God rested in his creation process on Planet Earth. Real issue is the command to give every seventh day to worship of God. If your week starts on Monday than Sunday is your seventh Day not Saturday. God did not use a day by name however he said every time you put in Six Days give the Seventh to the Father. That is implied in Chapter One and Two of Genesis.

The answer and analysis given by S. Michael Houdmann on the question is why most Christians worship on Sunday and not Saturday/Sabbath is excellent and solidly backed by scripture.

How much clearer can Colossians 2:16 "So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths ( free from the judgement of men) Or Romans 14: 1, 5-6. "...but do not dispute over doubtful things"

"One person esteems one day above another; another extreme everyday alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day , observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it....(principles of Christian liberty).

In Acts 15:28-29 at the Jerusalem Council regarding the dispute between the Gentile converts and those Jews who insisted that the Gentiles undergo circumcision and the observance of the Mosaic law, the council guided by the Holy Spirit only required only these necessary things of the Gentiles " For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, and from things strangled , and from sexual immorality".
If you keep yourselves from these you will do well"

It is important to know that the burden they were talking about was not just circumcision, it was circumcision and the law. The burden of the law that even the Jews or their forefathers were unable to keep. Acts 15:10

I think it is a common misconception that the Old and New Testaments are 2 separate books. It is one whole book, separated by 2 dispensations. Before Christ came, and after Christ came. Everything before Him points to Him. The Sabbath was created before sin entered the world, man was not created to work 24/7, but God made the Sabbath for man to rest, worship and give thanks. Also to show dependence on the LORD for his daily bread, not on his own work. Christ rose from the dead, and also ascended to heaven on the first day of the week.

I, as a reformed believer, come to meet my LORD and Saviour every Sunday in corporate worship, not just to obey the law but out of thankfulness for His Grace to me. When the 10 commandments, ALL 10, are read every Sunday morning, it is like a mirror, showing me that I fall short of the glory of God. But because Christ came to fulfill the law, not abolish, I am free and obey these laws out of thankfulness, not that my own works can save me. Now that Christ has come, everything points to His return. Our day of rest is a foretaste of our eternal rest. Think of the majesty of heavenly worship we get a glimpse of in the book of Revelations! We get a taste of that as we, as a communion of saints, gather for worship of our Holy God! The Holy Spirit works faith in our hearts through the preaching of the Gospel. I need that strengthening of faith every week. Or I become weak! Take the Word as a whole revelation of God's will.

When God created the 'Holy' Sabbath day rest; the last day of creation, there was no such thing as a Jew; Judean.

And why, God's Word says, 'The Sabbath was made for man...' etc. It does not say that the Sabbath was made for the Jews, Hebrews or any other specific people/ nation.

In scripture, the word 'Man' in the plural sense refers to humanity as a whole. If God had been referring to 'Man' as Jews at creation, He would not have needed to use the word 'Man' at all because then surely, all humans would always have been referred to as Jews.

As we know, this is not, and could never be the case...otherwise, logically, geographically the whole world would literally have to be called Judea since the term, Jew, refers to Judeans!

Christ said that he didn't come to destroy the law, the Sabbath is LAW and yes we are to keep the Sabbath. If the laws were done away with then what are we to be judged by?

Michael, Jesus fulfilled the law therefore believers are not under the law.
