Put into the simplist terms possible, prayer is nothing more than talking to God. You don't need special words to say, just you expressing your innermost thoughts to the King of Kings.

So what are the nuts and bolts of prayer? There is an acronym I use when teaching the basics of prayer:
P- praise
R-repentance
A-ask
Y- yeild your will to the will of God.

If you take the time to really examine the Lords Prayer, all of these elements are found within that prayer Jesus prayed. In fact, everytime you pray, the words you are saying will fall into one those categories.

I try to encourage people, especially ones that are new to the idea of prayer, to at first focus on incorporating all of these into prayer, even if it means spending an allotted amount of time on each. If you only spend 5 minutes on each one you will have prayed a total of 20 minutes, which may seem like a long time for some. Eventually it will all come naturally and you will find God leading you in prayer.
