I think that Jesus made this answer crystal clear when He was telling the story of the rich man and Lazarus. (Luke 16:19-31) This rich man was so wealthy and greedy that he never looked to the needs of this poor beggar that sat at his gates. As God intended, both men died. Lazarus was carried to Abraham's bosom (paradise) and the rich man was placed in torment. The rich man lifted up his eyes, saw Lazarus far away in a very pleasant place. Suddenly, the rich man seemed repentant. "Please send Lazarus with a drop of water, I am so thirsty." When the answer was no, his attention shifted off his own sins and turned to his brothers. "Please send Lazarus back from the dead and let him tell my brothers what this place is like." Abraham reminded the rich man that his brothers had the prophets that foretold of Jesus arrival, they had Moses' writings which was a shadow and type of Jesus, and if they would not believe those, even if one was raised from the dead, they would not change. { How do we know this is a true statement. Look at what happened to Lazarus of Bethany. Jesus raised him from the dead after he had been dead four days. The Pharisees tried to kill him (John 12:10) Why? Because he was a true witness to the people. However, the people were fickle, just after this they were screaming to crucify Jesus.} So, Jesus' own commentary about the after life with His story about this rich man gives us this answer. After we leave this life, we have lost the chance to change our eternal abode. As long as we have breathe in this world, we have the choice to choose Jesus and His Life. Be Blessed, Lena
