Jesus came for one purpose--to die for the redemption of man. On the cross, He said, "It is finished." That was His mission and it was finished at His death.

He stayed long enough to train the disciples to take His word and gospel to the world, which they did and which we continue to do.

There was no reason for Him to remain on earth. He had to die to redeem us and that's what He did.

The purpose of Christ's death on the cross was to pay for our sins. Our sins had to be payed for in order for us to posses the righteousness of god. If we do not posses the righteousness of God the Holy Spirit can not dwell in our hearts.
