Some believe the Assyrians are descendants of Ishmael. No one can trace a direct line to Ishmael, but they had a written word almost identical to the Koran. (Arabic) many believe a link to Ishmael because of his 12 tribes which settled East, south and Northeast of Israel. Same as modern day Iran, Saudi Arabia and parts of Syria. The descendants of Ishmael conquered the 10 Northern tribes. In other words, it is very likely a direct link exist between Ishmael and modern Assyrians. Arab countries speaking Arabic, Aramaic and Hebrew are 1st cousins in the field of linguistics, just as English and German are and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin are. Of Course with the Jews, a direct link can be established to Isaac. Both Ishmael and Jacob had descendants from 12 tribes, (both had 12 sons). Hager went south, back to Egypt after leaving Abraham.
