What does it mean that the 'law is for the sinful man and not for the righteous man?'

1 Timothy 1:9 - 10

ESV - 9 Understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers. 10 The sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine.

People who have truly repented of there sin and have Jesus as their savior will not be judged by the law because Christ Jesus has forgiven them of all their sins. As for those who do not accept Jesus as their savior, their sins are not forgiven. God almighty has no choice but to judge them by the law and condemn then to hell. God is holy and cannot allow those who are not holy, meaning saved by accepting Jesus as there savior, to enter into his presence.

Since all of our sins are paid for should we go on sinning? Paul said NO. Living in sin is against the grace of God. We should keep from sin because we love Him who saved us by grace. But when we do sin, we have more grace in time of need. Where sin abounded, grace much more abounded. We do not sin because He saved us from all sin.

We are never going to be perfect in this life because of our old sin nature that we still have. First John 1:8 says, If we say we have no sin, we are liars, and do not the truth. But the blood of Jesus cover us from all sin. We can no longer be condemned for sin, but God does chasten those He loves. So if we live in sin, we can count on the Lord chastening us. He loves us to much to let us live in sin.

But once we have been made a child of God through Jesus, we can not be condemned for sin because we have his righteousness. We love Him because He first loved us and gave Himself for us.

When the law came through Moses, it is necessary to understand the following, Moses came down the Mountain with the tablets of the token in his hands, these were broken, when he found the people adoring the Golden Calf. So God wrote a second tablet of stone, and this was brought into the Ark of the Covenant, where it was placed on the mercy seat and sprinkled with innocent blood. Such is the way the Law of Moses would be brought to perfection by the sprinkling of blood, the blood of the Lamb. God established his mercy to us through Christ at the same time His Righteousness was shown to us by the Law. The Lord told Paul, "My Grace is greater than your sin", Jesus said, "Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice, this from Ho 6:6, Paul told us in Rom 10:10, " Christ is the end of the Law", Paul recused himself as the chief of sinners, then in Rom. 7, discussed the war in the members, and lamented that Christ would save his body doomed to death, and praised him. If we show mercy, it will be shown to us. If we forgive the transgressions done to us, our Heavenly Father will forgive you your trespasses, but if you do not forgive others their trespass/transgressions against you, neither will your Heavenly Father forgive you. James 2 12;13, tells us, "Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the Law of freedom, whoever acts without mercy will be judged without mercy, but mercy can afford to laugh at judgement". Very good Dana. If we do not forgive others there trespasses, how can we believe we will be forgiven our trespasses? We are to show mercy, not sacrifice. God does not judge us according to our sin, and we are to show that grace and mercy to others. How can we say we love God and hate our brother for whom Christ died.

Since Jesus has forgiven us all our sins, should we not show that grace to others? Since God has shown us great mercy in sending His only Son to save us from our sins, we should show that love and mercy to others. Not as under the law, but under grace.
