Did Jesus break the Sabbath?



      

John 5:18

ESV - 18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

We tend to forget that kings made all the laws for their subjects, and their subjects had to obey. Dissent was a matter of life or death. That was the power and authority of a king.
Mark 2:28
Jesus clearly says "I am Lord over the Sabbath."
Since he invented it, he can abide by it or put himself above it, or even abolish it any time he chooses.
However, Jesus came as a servant, obedient to his Father and teaching his disciples the way of love, so he would not act arbitrarily although he had the right to do so.
