Who was Linus?

The Roman Catholic Church claims Linus was Peter's successor. Is this claim true, and if so, what sources confirm this position? Does the Bible teach that this is exactly what occurred?

Linus succession to Peter as bishop of Rome is not in the Bible. Peter's death is not in the Bible.

The sources used by the Catholic Church to support this claim is not Bible. Obviously. We look to history, and the writings of men who lived in the First Century, like Jerome and Tertullian.
