I concur with S. Michael Houdmann's view: "In the aftermath of Korah’s rebellion against Moses and Aaron, God performed a miracle to confirm that Aaron and his descendants were indeed chosen to minister before the Lord’s presence. Twelve staffs were collected, one from each tribe. The staff representing the tribe of Levi had Aaron’s name inscribed on it. The staffs were laid in the tabernacle in front of the ark of the covenant overnight, and the next morning Aaron’s staff “had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds” (Numbers 17:8). God commanded Moses to place Aaron’s staff inside the ark as well, saying, “This will put an end to their grumbling against me” (Numbers 17:10)." "Grumbling is the death of love."-- Marlene Dietrich And the budding of a dead branch is evidence of the vindication of God's servant, Aaron (Psalm 135:14 For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.)
