When my wife and I were having extreme marital problems (mainly because of me) we counseled with our pastor for several weeks and he suggested a separation based on 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. He made both of us sign an agreement between us and God and promised him that neither of us would seek out another person of the opposite sex, would not seek sex outside of our marriage, that we would work on our marriage and we would continue to meet for our counseling sessions while separated. Bullheaded me fought against this as I couldn't see the wisdom of living apart but trying to reconcile. After several weeks I began sensing God's leading in all of this, so I decided to NOT to fight against Him! Once I did this things began turning around rather quickly. God began healing me of the damage caused by the years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse I suffered as a child. Then he began working on my pride, my sexual addiction, my anger and other sins. After about 75 days I was absolutely LOVING the overwhelming sense of God's presence, grace, love and mercy and we discussed ending the separation and me moving back in but I felt that God wasn't done healing me, so I told our pastor and my wife that I wanted to wait another two weeks. Two weeks later I called our pastor and asked him to meet my wife and I at the altar the next morning. We prayed together, cried together and rejoiced together. He was especially elated and hugged both of us (amazing because he ain't a hugger!) That was 27 years ago. We will celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary in April of 2021. All praise and glory go to God.
