Add to your argument Robert, what about the way the sperm was donated? Chances are, he was probably given pornograhic literature and images, to masturbate, by! Which is definitely a sinful act.

All the previous answers are well thought-out and I can not disagree with any of them. One other aspect that might need examination is the method of "harvesting" the sperm from the donor. The only means would be by the donor masturbating into a cup, an act which in itself is deemed sinful in scripture. I don't volunteer this viewpoint as being critical of the process, but I thought it best that all possible views be submitted. Please feel free to edit this as you deem necessary.

We need to be careful in our interpretation of God's words. We know in part on this side of eternity. For by him all things were created...Col 1:16. I am proud to be a child of God & God is also not ashamed to call me His son. The truth is that the only true Son of a God is Jesus , all other children come to God via adoption. This sounds worse than a baby a woman nurtures in her womb for nine months resulting from egg & donor sperm with her partner consent.
Let us also realise that each time a man attempts to make baby by mating with his wife millions of live carrying sperms are waisted. Of every 100 pregnancies conceived naturally 15 are miscarried spontaneously. Let's be careful in judging in haste God's servants who put smiles into families by following God's injunction to " dominate the earth"

Just a blurb on the subject...medically speaking that is...there is a method of collecting semen that does not involve masturbation. Though will require a specific procedure performed by a doctor....purely clinical or so it seems. Sin ???????
