Good question and I humbly submit for your consideration a simple answer: under the giant banner of Christendom there resides numerous governing doctrinal options.
(1 Corinthians 15:33; 2 Corinthians 4:2)

Simply stated; The world system has invaded Christendom and now governs many of the main line churches and influences the smaller ones within to varying degrees, and some have even been influenced by heresies. (Judges 17:6; Judges 21:25)

Consider that within Christendom today in more than a few church groups, many sermons avoid mentioning sin, let alone talk within their walls of sin. Any clearly abhorrent abominations listed within the Bible seem to be missing for some reason or another (Deuteronomy 18:10; Luke 11:17; Luke 11:23).

Today, a practicing and openly rebellious sinner may in some cases actually perform the services. Other sinners enter into these buildings leaving unchanged, having heard the message their itchy ears desired to hear, and the only change is in the missing coinage of their pockets. (John 12:43; Luke 12:21)

Bottom line;
A world system principle "one never drives away a paying customer" translated into our vernacular and put another way "the customer is ALWAYS right".(Galatians 6:5)

Many church groups seem to see themselves more as businesses than lights for Christ. A business that desires to remain in business using the secular world system must operate by it's governing statutes, and if a few of the more unpopular kingdom statutes must suffer for this greater good, 'so be it'. This thinking leads to a popular but errant 'peace, love and granola bar' gospel. (Haggai 6:5-6; Matthew 6:24; 2 Corinthians 2:17)

The Jesus presented by these groups is often plastic, offering platitudes and symptoms to make one feel comfortably warm and fuzzy, but nothing to change you in any meaningful way what so ever (Matthew 7:14; 2 Corinthians 4:4).
