He was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:4) ► Who raised Jesus from dead? God Almighty raised him from dead (Acts 13:30) ► Why was he raised? 1. He was raised to fulfil the scriptures as it was foretold(1 Corinthians 15:4) 2. Jesus himself gave Jonah as a sign for his death and resurrection (Jonah 1:17 with Mt. 12:40; Lk. 11:29.) ► What the scriptures that 1 Cor 15:4 refers to? 1. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Compare Jonah 1:17 with Matthew 12:40, Luke 11:29) 2. Jesus said, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. (Luke 11:29) 3. Reward of the Messiah (Isa. 53:12) will divide the spoils of the strong. The Septuagint reads, "divide the spoils of the mighty," referring to His mighty victory over Satan and all supernatural powers against God. If it does refer to dividing the spoils with the strong, then it means that He shares the blessings of victory with His followers who become joint-heirs with Him (Rom. 8:17-18).
