1John 4:18,19 - "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us."

This is a description of how much the Lord loves each and every one of us.

Ephesians 5:24,25; "Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;..."

Notice it does not say wives are to love their husbands. Jesus so loved us he GAVE His very life that we be holy before God.

If a husband so loves his wife, she will respond likewise with the love and respect he deserves. It is in the design of the human creation. If the man truly loves his wife, like Christ loved His church, he will never hurt her and only do good for her.

What more could any woman want?

What do you really wanna know? HOW TO? How to get a man to love and respect a woman who he isn't showing love and respect for? Is that it? If it is, reading Scripture at him probably won't make him reconsider his stance. Trying to get a hard man to soften can be like trying to get a dead horse to run by beating it. Often, unless God intervenes, it is what it's going to be. If you give birth to a left handed child, you can put that ball or pencil in his right hand and try to get him to throw and write with it, but he's going to write and throw with his left hand. He's left handed!

If you marry a "left handed" man and didn't notice it before you said, 'I do,' in order for him to change, his left hand will have to be disabled, or you'll have to get used to it, if you don't wanna bail. Here's a scripture: God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). He ain't the only one. I think He'd rather see us with a broken hand than see us try to separate what He has joined together.

I'm talking about change. Either the selfish man has to change or the unloved and disrespected wife has to. (Or the usual, life goes on the way it's going). God hears our prayers. Psalm 34:17 says, 'The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.' The verse that follows that one explains it. We need more than verse 17 because when we're still going through the trouble we're praying about, we start to doubt the authenticity of what it says. (Here it is): 'The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.' (Psalms 34:18).

God's presence, His nearness is the key.

Telling a Christian to pray is like telling a guard dog to bark; provided he's really a guard dog.

Somebody, when a relationship is on the rocks, somebody has to change. When Leah discovered that having sons for Jacob wouldn't make him begin to love her, she had to take a different approach to how she saw herself. (I believe God went along with her plan, giving her four sons by Jacob before He opened Rachel's womb. (read it in Genesis 29, 30). She was trying to make a man who didn't love her, change his ways. It didn't work. God knew the whole time that it wouldn't).

It changed for her when she changed. Jacob was Jacob; Rachel was Rachel; and God will always be God. Each time Leah gave birth to a son, after the first three sons, she declared, 'Now my husband will love me.' Her only thought was toward her husband's love. (It's the principal in Leah's story). It's as if she'd do almost anything for it. That could not be pleasing to God. After she gave birth to her 4th son Judah, she refocused her attention from Jacob to God.. finally. She declared, "Now I will praise the Lord" (Genesis 29:35).

That's my answer to every storm I encounter that comes and makes a home with me. Both physical and mental. I pray that God will remove the stumbling block. And I praise Him whether He does it or not. Here's the scripture: You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3). It's true.

Be good to "Jacob." Give him the love he deserves; but keep your focus on God, whose love is never in doubt.

Good question, Lisa!

What does scripture teach about how a husband should respect his wife?

Paul writing to the church at Colossae (Colossians 3:19 ESV --English Standard Version), said:

"Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them."

Husbands, show your wife tenderness, even if she makes a mistake. As much as you love your wife, she may occasionally make an error in judgment, be impatient or unkind toward you, or upset you in some other way. However, Colossians 3:19 says, "Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them." Be slow to anger and show your wife forgiveness and love. This will allow her to grow from her mistakes, rather than being haunted by them.[6]

a. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 also describes this kind of love: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs."

b. You will need to be humble and apologize if you make a mistake in the relationship, as well.

In fact, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV / would be good here:

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
