Why is wickedness portrayed as a woman in Zechariah 5:7-8?



      

Zechariah 5:7 - 8

ESV - 7 And behold, the leaden cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting in the basket! 8 And he said, "This is Wickedness." And he thrust her back into the basket, and thrust down the leaden weight on its opening.

I've also heard that spiritual or religious belief systems can be represented symbolically as women in the prophecy. For example Israel referred to as Jehovah's wife, the Church is the bride of Christ. I am under the impression the whore of Babylon is a representation of false religion.
