2 Corinthians 4:4
ESV - 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

God created man in His image and gave him complete dominion over the earth and everything in it. (Gen 1:26-28)
Man gave that dominion to satan when he violated God's command. (Gen 2:7, Gen 2:17)
Satan confirms that the earth was delivered to him. (Luke 4:5-6)
Jesus came and regained the dominion that Adam lost through his disobedience. Through Jesus' obedience and sacrifice gave back to us, the dominion Adam lost. (Matt 28:17,18)
Jesus has now given us His Name and expects us to use the authority He died to give us through His name and take back the dominion we should have had since God created "man in His image."(Mark 16:15-18)

God has established certain laws, or principles, to govern this universe. Among these are the laws of physics, like the thermodynamic laws codified by Sir Isaac Newton and the laws of gravity codified by Newton and Albert Einstein. Scripture tells us about other laws, both physical and spiritual. One of these is in Romans 6:16, Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? This principle didn't come into existence when Paul wrote it down by inspiration of God. It is one of the guiding principles of the universe established at the creation. When God created Adam, He gave him dominion of this world. The title "god of this world" literally means "one who dominates this world." Originally that was Adam. When he obeyed Satan and sinned he became a servant of Satan. The servant isn't above his master, so all of Adam's power and titles became Satan's. But Adam couldn't give more than he was given. He wasn't given dominion over other men, he was the only one at the time, and he wasn't given dominion over other the Mellennial Sabbath, of which the weekly Sabbath is a type. This is why Christ will rule on the Earth for 1000 years, and after 1000 years "Satan must be loosed again." It is cyclical.
