Speaking just for myself, I would first step back and examine as objectively as possible the substance of the belittlement to determine (even if I might disagree with it or be angered by it) whether there might be some insight in it that I can learn from and use to improve myself.

As difficult as it may be, I would also try to view the situation from the other party's perspective to understand if possible the reason for his comments.

I would then take my cue from Peter's words in 1 Peter 2:21-23. I would make every possible effort to avoid losing my composure. I would also try to reduce the tension of the situation by not responding in kind; by confining my words to objective statements of fact rather than feelings, and (if possible and/or appropriate) even using self-deprecating humor.

I have also found that having a Christian appreciation of our universal human fallibility helps me in not taking criticism personally, based on the awareness that we are all imperfect, and also that the other party's opinions do not have a bearing on my eternal status in God's eyes. (In fact, such criticism may serve to eventually open a door to discussion of spiritual issues.)

My response would depend upon the context in which the belittling statement was made. Since another human being has no power to save me or condemn me to eternal separation from God, the crux of my response would reflect that. It is my assertion that the opinions of others about my Christian faith, are just that - opinions. If the criticism points to some way that I might improve myself, I can honestly thank the belittler. If the negative comments are merely based upon the commenter's lack of Christian faith, I might respond by reminding that person that it is all a matter of faith. They are entitled to believe whatever they want to believe; ergo, so am I. I don't have to 'defend' my faith, or be offended by someone else's opinion. I have found in simply stating my position as a saved, and secure Christian, critics may become curious about what makes me so unflappable. Then I have the opportunity to witness to people who were just uninformed about the blessings of being a child of God.
