I'd say that it could be, but only if the Biblical criteria for determining merit (which can often be in conflict with the criteria of "the world") were in place. The world often values and judges by visible attributes, measurable criteria, or demonstrated indicators of success on the part of those who strive to be first. By contrast, the Bible shows that God looks upon the heart (1 Samuel 16:1-13), and that true greatness in His eyes is characterized by serving others, even to the point of being their slave (Mark 10:35-45), and by performing the kind of actions for which Jesus indicated in Matthew 25:34-36 He will commend the redeemed. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave an excellent sermon (the last one that he preached as a minister prior to his death) on the text from Mark cited above, which he titled "The Drum Major Instinct".
