If we are talking about salvation it is the free gift of God to all who have put their trust in Jesus alone for the gift of eternal life. Acts 16:31.
Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
The GIFT of God is eternal life. A GIFT is paid for by the GIVER. John 10:28-29.
The second we trust Jesus as the only way of salvation apart from any works or actions we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise and given eternal life.
