"Mercy killing" is simply another word for "euthanasia" in most English-language dictionaries. Euthanasia and, therefore, mercy killing is "the act of putting a person or animal to death painlessly...

While every bible verse that I recalled has been brought out, I thought I'd add a personal experience. Mercy killing, or euthanasia, has been thrown out into the public forum for a long time. But there is another aspect that we use, called hospice. Hospice is the process of a life ending naturally, either by age or infirmity. My own mother recently passed shortly after she was placed on hospice. We used hospice for 'palliative care.' This is the process used to keep those actively dying as comfortable as possible.

My own mother had an incurable disease that made breathing difficult. At 91, she recognized that her life's end was rapidly approaching, and she prepared a few items for her 'bucket list," which we obliged. She became very ill, adding pneumonia to the already increasing progression of her disease. My family put her in the hospital for the pneumonia, and we brought her home 6 days later on hospice. She was not eating or drinking, and this is part of the 'active dying' process. We chose to keep her as comfortable as possible and let God take her when He was ready. She was only home 14 hours, but she was where she wanted to be, and we were following her advance directives.

Not all cases of 'euthanasia/mercy killing' will fall into this category, but death is personal to God. Because sin entered into the world through one man, death is passed on to all. We often forget the indignity that some endure, and I'm glad I got to share in a peaceful passing where my mom is reunited with family and friends.
