When someone receives the Holy Spirit, does God give that person a specific spiritual gift?

Acts 2:1 - 47

NKJV - 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:7, "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." And then, after specifying in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 some -- but not (in my opinion) all -- of the gifts to which he was referring, he again says in 1 Corinthians 12:11, "All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit who apportions to each one individually as He wills." I interpret the repeated use of the term "each" to mean that all believers receive at least one spiritual gift. (However, as noted above, that gift is not intended for the individual's own private or personal use, benefit, or "glory", but for the good of the entire body of believers.)

Upon receiving the Holy Spirit a gift or gifts are instilled in the believer they are as follows:
1) Word of Wisdom
2) Word of Knowledge
3) Faith
4) Gifts of Healing
5) Working of Miracles
6) Prophecy
7) Discerning of Spirits
8) Diverse (or different) kinds of Tongues
9) Interpretation of (different) Tongues
If you don't know what you may have ask the Holy Spirit to reveal them and be sure to know that God will show you so that you may glorify him with what you have received.

God the Father alone gives spiritual gifts but you can request through prayer and you can ask others with gifts lay hands on you in prayer to receive spiritual gifts.

Look at the story of the anointings of Elijah and Elisah for an old Testament example.

But only God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit decide who gets spiritual gifts. The Father the Son and the Holy Spirit are one, but even Jesus said that only the Father knew when he would return to the earth; so they are in unity but they have distinct purpose.

The bible clearly promotes coveting spiritual gifts but the coveting must be for a pure motive. Otherwise God the Father will not grant these desires.

Do search your heart for purity in your desires of spiritual gifts. This is a very serious road to travel that a "novice" should not desire to travel.

The full understanding of the scriptures is the greatest quest in your search for spirituality. God's people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge.

Zeal without knowledge leads to troubles. The scriptures are the weapons of our warfare. Memorizing the scriptures gives us words to speak against our invisible adversaries and in our prayers.

Knowing how to pray the scriptures, praise and worship our God is vital. Scriptures, praise and worship are weapons that many never learn to deploy. They are babies living on milk, never maturing to eat meat.

Think about it.
