Why is a bronze serpent used to save the Israelites in Numbers 21:8-9?

Numbers 21:8 - 9

ESV - 8 And the Lord said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live. 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

Just wondering...they had to look at, “stare down” the evil that inflicted them. We must boldly stare down, take a stand mixed with faith against what had afflicted or tried to afflict us; we don’t avoid, but “face it down” with faith. Say (you) to that mountain: “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!” Fear nothing, have faith in Word. Look it in the face armed with the Shield of Faith and the Word of God.
