20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

Scripture interprets Scripture. Genesis 3 explains the origin of the subjection. Isaiah 65:17 and 66:22, 2 Peter 3:13, and Revelation 21:1-5 announce the new heavens and new earth where righteousness dwells and the curse is no more (Revelation 22:3). Christ’s own work secures it: He is the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45) who undoes the ruin of the first. By His obedience, death, and resurrection, He reconciles all things to Himself, whether on earth or in heaven (Colossians 1:20). The freedom creation will obtain is “the freedom of the glory of the children of God”--the same glory believers will share with Christ (Romans 8:17).
