What does it mean that Jesus is the answer?

“Jesus is the answer” is a popular slogan. Missing is the question. Jesus is the answer to what? What are people trying to convey when they claim that Jesus is the answer?

Although I can think of many potential areas or ways in which Jesus could serve as an answer, I would say that the way that addresses the most fundamental issue and need for humans (as well as being the first one mentioned by God in the Bible in Genesis 3:15) is as the answer to the estrangement between God and humanity resulting from sin. I regard this as the most important way because it makes it possible for sinful humans to live eternally in God's presence through faith in the redemption that Jesus achieved by His sinless life, atoning death, and resurrection.

That salvation then provides the answer for humans to a multitude of other issues, including relieving guilty consciences; repairing broken relationships with other people; giving meaning and purpose to our earthly existences; allowing us to erase our worries and doubts; and even ultimately bringing peace to the entire world.

"Jesus is the answer" is a popular phrase and absolutely true. The phrase is commonly used by people who have recently come to faith in Jesus, as part of their personal testimony. Jesus forgave my sins and took all the guilt and shame away, they will say. Jesus delivered me from my addiction (ie, drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc), and took even the desire away. Jesus has healed my past hurts and helped me restore my relationships with my (spouse, children, parents). Jesus has given me so much love for other people that I never thought possible. Jesus has made my life worth living and every day is now filled with joy. That's a lot and I've heard all of it in personal testimonies.

People who have been Christians for awhile, and know their bibles well, can recount numerous other reasons why Jesus is the answer from our own personal relationship with him. Here are a few more examples that come to mind.

Jesus paid the penalty for all my sins through his suffering and death on the cross, so now, by faith, I have a right relationship with God that is personal and intimate (Romans 5:1-21).

Jesus' resurrection from the dead has made me spiritually alive (Colossians 2:13), I am born again as a brand new person and creation, so I can now live a life that is pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Jesus gave me his Holy Spirit to seal his gift of eternal life (2 Corinthians 1:21-22). Even though I may sleep in death, i will never die (1 Corinthians 15:1-58). My home is in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:1-4) and I will live for eternity in the new earth that Jesus will create (Revelation 21:1-21).

Jesus is the Lord of my new life (Acts 10:36). He trains and equips me (2 Timothy 3:16) to complete all the good works that my Father in heaven has prepared in advance for me to do (Ephesians 2:10). He gives me wisdom when I have difficult choices to make (James 1:5). He carries my burdens and gives me rest (Matthew 11:28-30). He never leaves me or forsakes me (Matthew 28:18-20).

Jesus is coming again to judge and punish all evil and wickedness to deliver his father's perfect justice (Matthew 25:31-46). He will reward every believer for their faithfulness to him (Revelation 22:12).

Because Jesus is God, everything that the authors learned about God from his revelation in the Old Testament shows us many more ways that Jesus is the answer. For example, Psalm 91 shows us many more reasons why Jesus is the answer.

Jesus is the Creator, Redeemer and coming King. The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end. The apostle John ended his gospel with these words "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written."

In my opinion, it would take a mountain of paper to record all the reasons why Jesus is the answer. I am so glad he is. Hallelujah!

Jesus is the answer to our broken relationship with God. When God created Adam and Eve, they enjoyed perfect fellowship with Him, but Adam’s disobedience brought sin and spiritual death into the world, breaking humanity’s relationship with God (Genesis 3:8-19; Romans 5:12). Yet God immediately promised a Redeemer who would defeat Satan and restore peace between God and man (Genesis 3:15, 21). That Redeemer is Jesus, who paid the penalty for all our sins through His death on the cross so that, by faith, we can have a personal, right relationship with God (Romans 5:1-11).

Because of Jesus, our future is secure. What's our biggest problem? Believers have a home in heaven and will live forever in a new earth where “there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain” (Revelation 21:1-5). Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). As the song says, “Jesus is the answer for the world today; above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the way.”

Maybe you have felt distant from God, guilty, or empty. That is the brokenness sin causes. God loves you and made a way back to Him through Jesus alone. You do not need to clean up your life first; just come as you are. If you want to receive Jesus today, pray something like this from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I admit I have sinned and my relationship with You is broken. Thank You for dying for me and rising from the dead. I turn from my old ways, trust You alone to save me, and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.” If you prayed that sincerely, the Bible promises, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). You are forgiven and made right with God. Now find a Bible-believing church and follow Jesus every day, because He is the answer for you today.

What does it mean that Jesus is the answer?

Saying "Jesus is the answer" means that Jesus Christ is the ultimate solution to humanity's core problems—specifically sin, spiritual separation from God, and death. He provides meaning, purpose, forgiveness, and eternal life, acting as the bridge that reconciles people with God.

Solution to Sin: Jesus' death pays the penalty for sin, offering forgiveness and a restored relationship with God.

Purpose and Truth: In a world of uncertainty, Jesus is the absolute Truth and the source of purpose in life.

Overcoming Fear/Death: Through his resurrection, Jesus is the victory over the fear of death.

Daily Guidance and Peace: "Jesus is the answer" He brings peace, comfort, and direction for everyday life, as well as for anxieties and emotional struggles.

In essence, Jesus offers hope, salvation, and transformation to anyone who seeks him.

Practical Guidance: On a day-to-day level, his teachings (such as the Sermon on the Mount) provide guidance on how to live ethically, handle conflict, and build healthy, loving relationships.

Conclusion:

Amen (meaning "so be it," or "surely"). He is the One in whom God's promises find sure fulfilment.—2 Corinthians 1:19, 20. Paul shows in 2 Corinthians 1:19, 20 that the title "Amen" applies to Jesus not merely as a truth-speaker or a true prophet and spokesman of God, but also as the one in whom all of God's promises find fulfilment. His course of faithfulness and obedience, even to a sacrificial death, confirms and makes possible the bringing to reality of all the promises and declarations of God's purpose. He was the living Truth of those revelations of God's purpose, the things to which God had sworn.—Compare Joh 1:14, 17; 14:6; 18:37.

So, why is Jesus called "the Amen"?

Greek, a·menʹ, a transliteration of the Hebrew ʼa·menʹ, meaning "so be it," or "surely." Jesus frequently uses this expression to preface a statement, a promise, or a prophecy, thereby emphasising its absolute truthfulness and reliability. Jesus' use of "truly," or amen, in this way is said to be unique in sacred literature. When repeated in succession (a·menʹ a·menʹ), as is the case throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus' expression is translated "most truly."—Joh 1:51.

Jesus is "the Amen" because his flawless integrity and sacrificial death confirmed and guaranteed the fulfilment of all of God's precious promises.

Jesus also used "amen" to affirm the truthfulness of what was said, but in a unique way. Rather than use it to reply to a statement, he used "amen" (translated into English as "truly") to introduce pronouncements of Truth. At times, he repeated the word, saying "amen amen." (Matt. 5:18; John 1:51) He assured his listeners that his words were the absolute Truth. Jesus could speak with such certainty because he was the one authorised to make all of God's promises come true.—2 Cor. 1:20; Rev. 3:14.
