How can "ancient laws" be relevant today? (Psalm 119:52)

"I remember, Lord, your ancient laws,
    and I find comfort in them."  (NIV)

The fact that God gave humans an inborn conscience indicates to me that, even before He codified His commandments in written form (that is, the "moral law" of the Ten Commandments, as opposed to the religious/ceremonial law pertaining specifically to the Jewish people), humans would have been aware from the beginning of history that certain acts were not to be performed or emulated. Those commandments will remain relevant as long as humans exist (even though it is no longer by obedience to those commandments that people are saved, but by faith in Christ, who perfectly fulfilled the entirety of God's law on our behalf).
