What the bible says is true for all time (2Timothy 2:16-17). Jesus said his Word would never disappear (Luke 21:33) and he is the Word of God who became flesh and blood (John 1:1-14). However, the application of God’s word to our daily lives requires the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. The bible says the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth (John 16:13). Should we be laying hands on people and expecting them to be healed today as the scripture instructs? Will God miraculously heal people through our prayers for them? Jesus said “Ask anything in my name, in accordance with God’s will, and I will do it for you? Is it God’s will for sick people to be healed? Do we really believe that? (John 14:12-14) The apostle James said when we ask God for something, we have to believe and not doubt, if we doubt we shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord (James 1:6-8). Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:14-16) I serve in the after service prayer ministry of my local church. People come forward, share their needs, and we pray for them. A man came forward who was suffering from kidney failure. He wanted God to heal him so he wouldn’t need a kidney transplant (on a waiting list). I annointed him with oil (symbol of the Holy Spirit), layed hands on him, and prayed for his divine miraculous healing. Several months later he came forward. He said that after the latest test results, the doctor told him his kidney was perfectly fine so he would not need a transplant. The doctor had no explanation for the change in his condition. But we both knew and celebrated together what God had done. I can personally testify that God heals people today when we lay hands on them and pray IN FAITH for their healing. Hallelujah!
I say yes! I personally have laid hands and prayed for the blind to receive sight, for deaf ears to be opened, tongues to be loosed, the paralyzed to walk and I have even raised the dead to life. This is all in accordance with what the word of God teaches. Not that I have anything more than anyone else, this is for all believers. I take God at his word, it's as simple as that. I saw this manifest more during my time in Africa, living in Uganda for five years. Where people have a greater expectation, the power of God can and will perform exactly as God word says it can. If we are willing and obedient, God will use us to perform his will for his glory. I did nothing of my own, it was all God's doing. It's just a matter of doing what his word says to do.
