When Satan rebelled against God due to his prideful desire to usurp God's place, he and the angels who joined him in his rebellion were defeated, and were immediately cast out of heaven and fell to earth. Jesus (who, as the Son of God, was part of the eternal Triune Godhead in heaven even prior to His incarnation on earth) thus was in a position to see the suddenness of Satan's fall, which is what He was describing in the verse cited in the question.

Read vs 17 prior to understanding vs 18. The remarks of Jesus here refer to the fall of Satan’s kingdom when demons are driven out. Satan “fell” as the disciples were able to expel demonic powers. Or perhaps Satan rushes to the defense of his kingdom.
