Was Theophilus a high priest?

Great question about Theophilus, Judith! He was a Christian of high rank for whose use Luke wrote his gospel and the Acts of the Apostles (Luke 1:3; Acts 1:1). No, Judith, I don't think he was a high priest because high priests had to be Jewish as far as I know. And I think Theophilus was a Roman official because Luke calls him "most excellent" which he also uses of Felix and Festus (the term “most excellent,” used also of Felix and Festus (Acts 23:26; 24:3; 26:25), and they were Romans (Roman procurators). Acts 24:3 in the New Living Translation reads, "For all of this, Your Excellency, we are very grateful to you."
