I would say that, in likening truth to a belt, Paul is not speaking of the truth of God's word (which he likens elsewhere in the passage to a sword), but is referring instead to the manner in which, just as an actual belt held all the other elements of the warrior's armor in place, and rendered the warrior vulnerable through the shifting of those elements if it was not present, all the other components of believers'[ "spiritual armor" are weakened or compromised unless those believers do not also possess underlying traits of personal truthfulness, honesty, and sincerity that permeate all their words and actions, and that allow them to continue to abide in the truth over passing time and changing circumstances.
