The NRSV is yet another version of the bible which will be Different to all others as otherwise there would be no need to publish it. What fascinates me is that we have so many versions in so many languages yet we still have people who want to argue a biblical point on the actual words in the bible, but the words are different in different versions but they all claim to be The TRUTH. They all contain the truth and all are true versions of the bible. So the truth must be in what the words MEAN not in what they SAY
If I read any religious tome I will find a line that MEANS love your neighbour as you love yourself but they each use different words I act on the meaning. To love others as I love myself I of course need to first love myself or else there is no love for me to share with others but I know many very sad people who seem to hate themselves yet claim to be Christians! A sad Christian clearly does not love themselves enough to be happy! It must be Hell to be like that!
Sorry, Brian. The advice that "You must first learn to love yourself" is Oprah Winfrey theology and that advice is given no where in the Bible. On the contrary, Ephesians 5:29 tells us that "no man ever hated his own body."
Loving our neighbor means putting the welfare of others above ourselves
