What does dayspring mean in the Bible? (Luke 1:78)

78 "Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,"

Is dayspring the name for Christ as the Water of Life or as the Light of the World?

Dayspring in Hebrew is “shahar”. It means to break forth. It is a poetic name for dawn. Job 38:12: "Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know it's place?"

Who does that? God alone commands the morning to get out of bed and the dawn to pull off its covers of night. God sets the limits on everything. See Psalm 19.

Dayspring is the description of the advent of Messiah.

He is the star that heralds the day. We call Him, “the light of the world.”

Isaiah 60: 1: "Arise shine out, for your light has come."

Jeremiah 23:5: "Look the days are coming, God declares when I shall raise an upright Branch for David."

Malachi 3:20: "But for you who fear My name, the Sun of justice will rise with healing in his rays."
