God saved Noah, his three sons, and their wives out of all the people on earth at the time of the Flood by means of the Ark that Noah had built at God's direction. (Anyone else alive at that time would have had the opportunity to be saved from the Flood by entering the Ark, but no one else took advantage of that possibility.) However, Noah eventually died (hundreds of years later) and was buried (which would be considered being in the belly of the earth). He will not be resurrected bodily until the general resurrection of all the dead that will occur at the time of the return of Christ at the close of the present age. When Jesus referred to the fact that He would be in the belly of the earth between His death and resurrection (Matthew 12:40), it was meant to draw a parallel with the prophet Jonah, who was in the literal belly of the great fish that had swallowed him for that length of time (Jonah 1:17).
