I would say Jeremiah, like other prophets was a messenger for God. He was a mouthpiece. Jeremiah 1:9: Jeremiah loved God. God touched Jeremiah's lips and filled him with His words. The prophets suffered greatly from inner struggles. Think about it. You hear God, and have to deliver a message that you do not understand. Or perhaps you understand some, but cannot explain and must deliver the message! Look at Daniel 12:8-10: "Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, 'My Lord what shall the end of these things be?' And God said 'Go your way Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, but the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked will understand, but the wise shall understand.'" So did Jeremiah know when the events would happen? I don't think so. Look around us... Are we watching expectantly?
