Micaiah was a follower of the prophet Elijah prior to Elijah's ascent to heaven. As indicated in 1 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 18, and in contrast to the hundreds of false prophets who told the kings of Israel and Judah (Ahab and Jehoshaphat, respectively) only what the kings wanted to hear, Micaiah told Ahab that God had allowed a lying spirit to deceive the false prophets into telling the kings that they would be victorious if they went into battle against the king of Aram at Ramoth-Gilead. By contrast, Micaiah exposed the false prophets as liars, causing one of the false prophets to strike him, and also resulting in Ahab ordering that Micaiah be imprisoned until the kings had returned from battle. Before going into battle, Ahab then disguised himself to prevent the enemy from identifying him as king. However, an enemy arrow fired at random struck Ahab, killing him, and vindicating Micaiah's prophecy of Ahab's defeat.
