I believe Paul's point is to not go out of your way to associate with unbelievers. Paul also reminds us that we would have to leave the planet to fully escape all that we are exposed to, so don't let yourself become too upset with the things of this world that you have no control of. Paul also clarifies that our disassociation should be more pronounced with believers who behave in ill fashion. Believers are to reprove believers, but it is God who will judge unbelievers: 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 "I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? Do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person." You have every right to express your feelings with your neighbor regardless of their beliefs, and that may very well solve the problem, but it is important to understand that you will not be punished for any lapse in righteousness. 1 Cor 10:23 "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not." 1 Cor 6:12 "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."
