As we live in the secular world, living for worldly things, we do not recognize or accept the Lord's offerings. When we physically die, our life is over, and we must and will stand before the Lord in judgment. Now, as a believer in Christ and having accepted Him into our lives, we try to be like Him and reject the secular world trappings and the selfish life of living for ourselves. We give up that old life for the new one in Christ. We are dead in Christ now, and we live for Him, not for ourselves. We have died in the spiritual realm and are no longer bound by the sinful trappings. We are in the arms of the Savior and have a new life in Him. Hence, the old saying, non-believers die once, and believers die twice. Read Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:6, and 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Luke 16:13: "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." When you accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, your allegiance is always Christ first. In any situation, the guidance is, "What would Jesus say or do?" He is my guide, He is my help. In Hosea 14:8 we read, "I have heard and observed him. I am like a green cypress tree; Your fruit is found in Me." Jesus gives us all we need. John 15:4: "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." Others will see Christ by your actions. Your actions can speak louder than your words. Job asked, "Does He not see my ways and count my steps?" (Job 31:4)

What does "died with Christ" mean for your spiritual identity and actions? Colossians 2:20: "If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations?" You are no longer defined by the old self. Your "old self" (Romans 6:6) was crucified with Him. Sin is no longer your master. Your true identity is now hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). You are no longer "in Adam" but "in Christ." A great unique song based on Romans 6:1-11 (2026) by Rhythm & Bible is what I found on spotify! Rhythm & Bible is a Christian content project that pairs recited scripture and biblical teachings with modern, soulful R&B instrumentals and melodies. Featuring musical performances and spoken-word collaborations from Zoe (a prominent vocalist and artist), the project is designed to help listeners relax, meditate, and connect deeply with the Word of God. Hear it! Now, as far as your actions are concerned, there are a couple of practical steps you could take. 1. When temptation whispers, answer, “That person died” (Romans 6:2). 2. Start the day affirming Romans 6:11 aloud; end the day thanking Christ for living through you. To say you have "died with Christ" is to say: The old you, which was enslaved to the world's rules and spiritual powers, is dead. Therefore, don't live as if that old you still needs to submit to those things. Instead, recognize that your identity is now in the risen Christ, and let your actions flow from that new life, not from a rulebook, but from a relationship.

In context of this verse of scripture, the Holy Spirit through the apostle is reminding the saints in Colossse of their liberty that they have in Christ Jesus. That they are no longer bound to the law or the traditions of men. They are not bound by abstaining from certain foods and having to follow various rules. I believe he is saying that none of these things have the power to change our sinful nature, but true transformation comes from our union with Christ.
