One thing that should be different about a truly Christ centered marriage is that Jesus should be a couples best and most important friend above spouse, children, other family, friends and neighbors. A Christ centered marriage should not have any place for thoughts of divorce because both spouses should be doing all they can for one another to have a cohesive marriage. Where one is weak the other should remain strong. Team work in accomplishing agreed upon goals that should invlove unity as well as equal sacrifice of finances, time and talents. This is not to say that other friendships with same sex friends can't and shouldn't be enjoyed. Personally I love working with my hands as well as artistic endeavors. The freedom to do so should be equitable for both spouses. No one should be consumed with their own objectives or hobbies to the piont that one spouse is neglected. Enjoying one anothers presents should always be a priority of things to do together above children, relatives, friends and occupations. Prayer time and discussion of biblical accountability and obedience to the guidelines that the word of God has given us in the word of God should be an agreed upon absolute. After all the beginning of wisdom is the reverent fear of the Lord. Jesus put it in much simpler words: "Those that love me obey me." Love is the driving force for a good relationship with our God and our spouse. Have no greater love than your first love the Lord, but second in line should be your spouse. If these are in their proper order all else will go well. It will all be a blessed union by our heavenly Father. Sacrifice, tolerance and mercy has to be a part of any relationship, and unity is the glue that maintains stability. It is easier to be single, but the rewards of a cohesive marriage are wonderful. One must always remember no one is responsible for our own happiness that has to come from within oneself but if one truely surrenders oneself to our Lord's teaching happiness will follow. Being a loner type personality it was hard for me to adjust to marriage but thank God my wife was willing to be patient with me to adjust my ways. Now I realize just how alone that I really was and all freedom that I lost was worth all that I have love gained throuugh my marriage. I could say it this way. It took marriage to show me how good God's plan was for man to not be alone. He who finds a good wife has found great treasure here on planet earth and it is a gift that comes from our Lord.
