The only REAL difference in a Christian and people who are of another religious faith, is the Christian believes that Jesus is our all in all, and the non-christian doesn't believe that.
There are successful marriages and relationships between people of every belief (everybody believes something). Believing in Jesus won't make anyone a good husband or a good wife. Being born again of the Spirit of God makes the new convert similar to a newborn child; he isn't that good at anything that has a degree of difficulty.
For the record, marriage is one of the most difficult relationships known to mankind. Reading about how it's designed to work ain't enough to make it work right, regardless of where you read it. It's the reason Christians don't make better mates than non-christians. Thinking that we do, and talking as if Paul's instructions to the Ephesians 5 Church can produce good marriages within the modern-day Church, is wishful thinking.
The key to humble living isn't in being told that your wife should humble herself before you; that only makes men more proud. On the other hand, the woman is encouraged to humble herself. I don't believe Ephesians 5 has fixed many broken relationships.
So what will?
Confession by both. Confession that they need to be scrubbed clean with hyssop (the blood) (Psalm 51:7). Purification!
Paul is teaching that both should humble themselves; it isn't understood and taught that way. It comes out sounding like, "THE MAN IS IN CHARGE!!"
