Great question in the light of 2 Peter 3:4 and https://ebible.com/questions/21040-will-the-earth-abide-forever-or-will-it-be-destroyed-psalm-104-5! -- see the context of this verse in 2 Peter 3:3-7. But especially see 2 Peter 3:4b.

4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

NO to the question, “Is the universe eternal?”
The Bible is crystal clean on this question. See 2 Peter 3:10 for the definite TERMINATION (INCINERATION) of the universe. Various translations of this verse follow:

AMPC

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
CEV
The day of the Lord’s return will surprise us like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a loud noise, and the heat will melt the whole universe. Then the earth and everything on it will be seen for what they are.
GW
The day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day heaven will pass away with a roaring sound. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and be destroyed. . The earth and everything that people have done on it will be exposed.

NOG
The day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day heaven will pass away with a roaring sound. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and be destroyed. The earth and everything that people have done on it will be exposed.
